For the first five people who reply to me and re-post this challenge, I will send you something. It might be something I've made just for you, or something cool from my collection, it might be a mix CD or a book I think you will enjoy, a graphic or something else that I think you might like. Whatever it is, I promise that I will get it to you in 365 days or less or you are allowed to beat me with a wet noodle.

The only thing you need to do in order to participate is to be one of the first five to reply to this, AND post this entry on YOUR live journal - 'cause it's fun to give people stuff.

Today is the day that I turn in my Berlin Application materials. I'm still waiting on my letter of recommendation and my dad's letter of financial support, but I have everything else finished.

This morning I need to run to CVS so I can get a sheet of passport-sized pictures taken because I need a ton of them for the application.

Because I'm mildly busy on wednesdays, I decided I would wake up at 9 so I could be at cvs by 10.

I had a dream that I woke up this morning at 11, meaning I would never be able to make it to CVS on time.
Then I woke up an hour early.

wtf? haha.

So I went to this lil site where they ask you a TON of questions and then tell you what sorts of careers you may be interested in and it was freakishly correct. here are the top ten suggestions it gave me:

  1. Anthropologist
  2. Psychologist
  3. Professor
  4. Clergy
  5. Political Aide
  6. Historian
  7. Actor
  8. Foreign Language Instructor
  9. Interpreter/Translator
  10. Addictions Councilor
The first two should probably be closer to the bottom of the list, but all these things (except maybe addictions councilor...) interest me. CREEPY.

Things have been going well.

I love my room, my roommate's awesome, my neighbors are cool.

My classes are fucking fantastic. The final list is:

Advanced French,
Advanced German Conversation and Composition
Theatre: Principles, Plays, Performance
Life and Death in the Middle Ages (700-1500)
The Formation of Islamic Societies (500-1500)
Voice Lessons with Doug Bowles

I love all my professors, my theatre class might be a little below my level, but it's ok.

Auditions for the Rude Mechanicals' Variety show are on tuesday and I'm excited to see people audition, etc. I'm going to be directing a scene from The Scottish Play - it will be wonderful.

ummm what else...

Esther's wonderful to have around. She, Janice, and I have taken to lazy days  sprawled out in the sun on the quad  - which is wonderful.

anywho, I'm off now.

Well, I'm in the process of packing everything up yet again. I've decided I don't like packing for school (or for coming home for that matter). Because inevitably, everything gets all messy with crap strewn about the house and boxes all over the place. On top of that, I always wind up sitting around not doing anything for long periods of time because I just don't want to pack. Like today. I woke up, pulled some books to take with me off my shelf and then promptly began procrastinating by calling people up and talking. Thankfully Andrew said "Aren't you supposed to be packing??? You should go do that now." heh.

I then proceeded to use The Project Runway Season 2 marathon, chocolate chip cookies, The Sims, and Ina Garten to help me avoid any actual packing.

To be fair though, I did wash all the clothes I'm planning on taking with me (as well as all my sheets and towels and stuff) AND I went and pulled all the stuff that was still in my boxes from when I came back home out of the boxes and sorted what I wanted to take back out. So really, it isn't going to be too much work after that.

What else...not much, really. Andrew and I went to the mall which was INSANELY dull. Thank God I have shopping in Georgetown, Bethesda, and Friendship Heights to look forward to. (the andrew part was fun, lol, and I'm very happy there's no awkwardness between us.)

I need to be fully packed by tomorrow night, when we will put everything in the car so we can leave wednesday night. I'll be moving in on thursday.

I'm crazy excited and a lil sad and nervous.

11 August 2007 @ 10:36 am

well, I don't really know what to write about.

I only have 3 more scheduled work days (this afternoon, monday, and tuesday).

Then I'll need to pack and buy things for my dorm - stuff I forgot to buy before last year and never got around to buying until now, and things I ran out of, etc.

I also kind of feel like buying clothes...haha, wow I'm a homo.

Tomorrow's Andrew's birthday/grad party. When asked what he wanted he said "anything for college, alcohol related, gay-related, or for decorating a dorm room, I guess" sooooo, I figured "hey, what about unbreakable martini glasses and a shaker?" After all, it covers 3 of the 4 things he mentioned - college and alcohol for the obvious reason, and the gay thing because, I dunno...I always figured cocktails were kind of a gay sort of thing anyway.

I threw my summer reading list out the window, and have been fully absorbed by Amelia Peabody once again. I'm enjoying them a lot. I've already made it through 2 in the past 3 days. (one of them involved Ramses spying for british intel during wwi!! very exciting).

Oh, and for those who don't know, while I was in high school, I never had time to learn how to drive. And on top of that, my father's been dragging his heels on teaching me. But, I finally drove on real roads with traffic and everything last night and it was wonderful. I didn't have a single problem (except for the part where I almost ran into a rock, but that was dad's fault anyway). I even parked in a parking lot with cars in it and everything. wewt.

oh, and Sylvia (my computer) is frustrating me more and more every passing day. She's so sick and slow. aghhhhhh. I miss when she was young and spry.

what I actually meant was:

"I'm NOW set to get the fuck back to DC."

well then.

we broke up. Luckily, it was an amicable break up, meaning we both agreed it was time to go ahead and break things off because we would need to in 2 weeks anyway, so it would be better to do it now and have time to cope/deal with it so we wouldn't ruin our friendship.

I'm going to miss calling him my boyfriend...but I'm not really all that upset.

I guess because I knew it was coming. So I've been preparing myself for it for weeks.

The biggest issue is going to be figuring out how to act around each other...it'll be awkward for a little while, but we'll be fine.

I don't know if it's because previous experience has "hardened my heart" to breakups and whatnot (all my previous ones had been bad) or because I knew all along it would get to this point. Still, it feels weird to think that I feel fine aside from feeling "generally sad" and I mean, we were joking before he left, and we had a good long hug. So I dunno. It's weird, I guess.

I can say this for sure: I'm not set to get the fuck back to DC.

Oh man...I need to think of a meal for saturday night.

Andrew's coming over...so I need to make something that's impressive, but not so complicated it looks like I went out of my way to be impressive...and it needs to be affordable too...sounds like Rachael Ray to the rescue!

I've decided to minor in International Studies...with a focus on "Peace and Conflict Resolution" so I'm excited about that.

I also think it's interesting that the day after I decided to add this as a minor, I saw an episode of the West Wing where the President reads the Beattitudes at a funeral...and he pauses when he says "Blessed be the peacemakers, for they shall be called the Children of God." it's just...interesting timing, I think.

I'm looking forward to getting back to DC. I like the people here in Fairport ("the people" meaning my friends and family) but I like DC better than Fairport. I miss my metro, and my parks, and my monuments, and my museums, and my capitol building, and my white house.

Yeah so...my last update turned out to have been pointless - nothing was wrong at all, everything was just a misunderstanding that has since been entirely cleared up! WHOO!.

Anyway.

Lovely time friday night. Margaret, Ellen, Stephanie, Andrew and I headed over to Vanessa's house. It was great fun (except for that disturbing tv show that involved a mango and a hamburger). A great time was had by all. And everybody approves of Andrew! wewt!

What else?

OH!

I saw Hairspray with Andrew 2 weeks ago and was, at the time, not all that impressed...but then I thought about it more and bought the soundtrack on friday (before heading to vanessa's!) and I am in love with it, haha. I don't think I like the movie itself so much as I love the music and the costumes, if that makes sense (Andrew is of the same opinion, so at least I'm not entirely crazy).

I've been watching The West Wing like it's my job lately. I've also been watching Scrubs as often as possible (I LOVE THIS SHOW!) and it's making me very happy.

ALSO I've started a Ravenclaw scarf - simply because I like the design and color combos. Great fun.

I don't think there's anything else...

I open today with one of my favorite quotes:

"But marry who, Your Grace? For some say Spain, and other France, while some cannot abide foreigners at all. I do not know how best to please you but to marry...one of each."
     --Queen Elizabeth I

ANYwho.

Had a lovely day - Margaret came over for a rousing afternoon of listening to music and cooking delicious lunch. (OH MAN. SO GOOD. beef, garlic, rosemary, and red wine reduction. OH MAN.) I seriously wowed myself with my culinary skills (which I already viewed as admirable...meaning I feel damn good about my cooking, haha!).

What else...not much, really. I LOVE I, Elizabeth it is outstanding. It may be that I'm more in love with "the glorious complexities of Tudor England" as I like to call them...but still, the book is pretty good.

Bonus points to anyone who can name the 6 wives of Henry VIII in order (including children!).

OH! AND WONDERFUL NEWS! Looks like Andrew FINALLY has internet access while at camp! HOT DAY-UM!

Oh, and here's the trailer I saw the other night. It made me bounce in my seat and make some sort of excited noise (which, of course, made andrew make fun of me).

Ah, and for those who are wondering yet haven't been able to figure it out (somehow) Andrew and I are doing wonderfully. He's an incredible boyfriend. It makes me smile just thinking about him.

Ok well, as HP just came out etc, I felt I ought to update my summer reading list. I've just started on I, Elizabeth. I may read The Life of Elizabeth I simultaneously (for those who don't know, the former is a fictitious autobiography of Elizabeth Tudor, while the latter is non-fictional).

Andrew and I went to see Hairspray with a couple of his friends on saturday. I enjoyed the movie (though I was not thrilled with Travolta. I loved queen latifa, though. I dunno why - but any time she came on screen I got excited - something for which Andrew promtly made fun of me).

What I really enjoyed about the movie outing (aside from the fact that the whole evening, which consisted of dinner before the movie was an excellent date) was that one of the trailers was for Elizabeth: The Golden Age.

Some of you may know that Queen Elizabeth has always been one of my favorite historical figures - in fact it was while reading about her that I realized I had enough of a passion for history that I could consider it vocationally. She and the period in which she ruled remain my most favorite historical subjects. (I dunno why I sounded so formal there, haha).  As a result, the movie Elizabeth, staring Cate Blanchette, has been one of my favorite movies for a long time (for one thing, while it was certainly romanticized and touched by hollywood, it was actually quite surprisingly historically accurate, not to mention the acting was fantastic). SO when I found out that the director and core cast were going to be making a second installment (which would cover the Armada and the Mary Queen of Scotts situation) I got rather excited.

So there I was on saturday, where I finally got a first look at it. And it looks FANTASTIC.

Anyway, I wish to make it through Henry's VI wives before bed - so I should get back to reading. (I just realized that sounds mildly dirty...m'oh well).
